CASASTART, a national model for helping the most at-risk children and families.

CASASTART (Boston): CASASTART is a national model for helping the most at-risk children and families in collaboration with public schools, police, and other local agencies, Wediko Children's Services is facilitating change in the lives of underserved youth and families through learning opportunities, family fun, and community connections. 

With funding from the Massachusetts legislature, Wediko is excited to partner with the Tynan and Perkins Elementary Schools and the Boston Police Department to provide comprehensive intervention and prevention services through a new program called CASASTART.   

The goal of CASASTART is to address the specific needs of all of the children and families in the program in order to enhance their ability to cope with the numerous social, environmental, and academic challenges. The services include: 

  • Assessment of student and family needs
  • Social support and intensive case management
  • Counseling, support, and crisis intervention for students and families
  • Referrals to community resources
  • School advocacy
  • Tutoring
  • Access to after-school and summer programs
  • Interface with local law enforcement to support school and community safety
  • Court advocacy
  • Enrichment activities: family events and field trips
