What We Do
Building Safe Places
At Wediko, all of the children and teens,
and their families have one thing in common--they are stuck in a
situation where something isn’t working. Whatever the obstacles may be,
they are preventing them from growing, having fun, learning, building
relationships, and functioning well as a family.
Wediko strives to provide a safe place for you and your child to
address some of the most pressing issues in your lives. Wediko
responds to the needs of children and families who face repeated
obstacles to development due to social, behavioral, environmental, and
learning issues.
Collaborating, improving communication, and showing compassion are central elements of Wediko's approach. We will connect with you, your child, your school, and your community to help restore hope in your ability to parent and in your child’s ability to succeed.
Wediko School
Creating a supportive school and social environment with ample opportunities for learning and for competence are key goals of Wediko’s
residential treatment program. The Wediko School
serves students from 6 to 21 with complex learning and psychological
profiles. Wediko encourages students to Respect, Cooperate, and
Share--behaviors which are essential for participation in family,
school, and community life. Family involvement on a weekly basis, and frequent home visits (when possible) are an integral parts of
the student’s treatment plan.
Wediko Summer
The Summer Program is an intensive, short-term experience, designed to restore each student's emotional balance and confidence, and strengthen their sense of competency and social connection. Characteristically, children leave the Summer Program with an improved ability to regulate their own behavior. With a new repertoire of skills, students are typically able to cope more effectively with age-appropriate expectations.
School-Based Services
Wediko clinicians provide school-based therapy to individual
students and work together with families and schools to help children
be successful. Family therapy and parent support groups, provided at
school or at Wediko’s Boston office, are available to help children
and famlies solve problems together. Wediko also meets with teachers
and school administrators to help develop workable supports for
students who are struggling to be successful in academics and social
relationships.
