What You and Your Child Will Do with Wediko
Your child’s team at school will meet and make suggestions about what services will be offered to your child. If your child’s school has a contract with Wediko to provide clinical services, some of their recommendations may include Wediko services.
Wediko provides school-based individual therapy, as well as dyad therapy (with two students, to work on improving social skills), group therapy, and family therapy. The school covers the costs of the therapy services because they believe that your child can be more successful in school if therapy is a part of the plan.
Your child or your family will be assigned a Wediko therapist who will arrange a meeting time. Students receive Wediko therapy during the school day, and family therapy is available either during the day or in the afternoon or evening. The therapist will contact you to review the way therapy is arranged and the plan for sharing information about the therapy. You will be invited to participate in your child’s therapy, either through phone calls, meetings at school or at the Wediko offices, or through more regular family therapy meetings.
Some students have worries that are keeping them from focusing on their academic learning. They may want to talk about some of their thoughts or feelings with a therapist, for example:
- Why is it so hard for me to make and keep friends?
- When I’m sitting in class, I space out because I’m thinking about what happened at home last night.
- Being in school is okay, but I’m feeling scared to walk in my neighborhood because of the violence there.
- I wish my mom would let me stay out late at night. Why doesn’t she trust me?
- I feel sad and tired almost all the time. Will I ever feel happy?
Other students may not want to meet with a therapist, but they do have goals that they can’t seem to reach, like:
- I want to get out of this school and back to my regular school.
- I want to play sports after school, but I got kicked off the team by the coach.
- I’d like a part-time job, but I don’t know where to look.
- I want my dad to spend more time with me, but I don’t know how to tell him that.
Family members can take advantage of the therapy services offered by the school through Wediko. Wediko offers family therapy and parent support groups. The school and Wediko understands that you know your child better than anyone else, and they want to be available to offer you ideas and assistance to help your child be happy and successful in school, at home, and in the community.
Therapists want to help students achieve their goals and to feel good about themselves. The Wediko counselors will work with you to find solutions to problems and ideas for helping your child achieve what they want. They will help work with your family and your child’s school to make plans for school success.
